Holistic Life Organization
Holistic Life Organization is a social enterprise operating in Bugesera, Rwanda that seeks to empower teenage mothers (ages -18) and their children through healing, education, and a supportive community, equipping them with vocational skills and ultimately transforming their lives in a positive way to lead better and more fulfilled
Why Holistic?
Teenage pregnancy is both a symptom and a cause of poverty. From school dropouts to severe ostracization, girls who become mothers at a young age face significant barriers that mainly impede their economic and psychological well-being.
A holistic approach is imperative when addressing the needs of these teenage mothers to ensuring the cycle of poverty ends with them
Our Holistic Approach
Our model combines 3 essential elements to improve the economic and mental health of our young mothers
Vocational Training
Education at HLO focuses on the acquisition of desired skills that prepare the youth for the modern and future labour workforce. As Rwanda invests more in its local textile industry through the Made In Rwanda Campaign, our rigorous training program equips teenage mothers with tailoring skills that are in high demand to seize employment and business opportunities and ultimately transform their livelihoods for the better. We also offer other career development services like internship and job placements.
Psychosocial Support
Most teenage mothers are victims of sexual and domestic abuse which they, in turn, inflict on their own children. When they arrive at HLO, they begin their healing journey in a supportive group with the help of a mental health expert with whom they overcome their grief and trauma and to foster a healthy state of mind.
Childcare and Parenting Classes
We offer a safe environment where teenage mothers build stronger relationships with their babies to ensure adequate child development. Our childcare team engages children in activities to stimulate the learning while their mothers go through the program. Also, through play and communication, teenage mothers also learn care-giving skills contribute to the survival, as well as the healthy growth and development, of their young children.
